Ameristar - Vicksburg, MS - Opening May 23rd Does anyone have any details on the games and room details of the new Ameristar room? Any player's comps or perks? I'd love to go over there this weekend, but my wife's bday is on the 24th. Maybe next weekend. |
Ameristar Vicksburg I got a card in the mail saying that they'd have a 9 table room, spreading "a variety of popular games such as Texas Hold'em, 7-card Stud and Omaha Split." No indication of the limits, though. The other card room in town has 3/6 LHE and 2/5 NLHE, I'd expect the same and am hoping for a 1/2 or 1/3 NLHE game to build the NL player base. They haven't really advertised the room yet beyond sending out an email and the card I mentioned. There's an ad in the weekend section of the newspaper, but it only mentions the expanded parking from the new parking garage. Hopefully they won't keep the new room a secret from the public at large. There are a gazilion players in the area. If they run a good room, they'll need way more than just 9 tables! |

Early findings Nice variety of games on their opening night: LHE at 3/6 and 4/8 (total of 5 tables) NLHE at 1/2 (1) and 2/5 (3) limit Omaha 8 at 5/10 (1) and Sunday they had 7 Card Stud spread 1-5 This casino has not had a Poker room in about 8 years, and some of the regular customers will sometimes sit down to give it a try, especially at the limit games. They just pour a rack (or two) on to the table and then move on. This happened once while I was playing Stud and twice while playing the 1/2 NL game. The room is similar in size to the Horseshoe in Bossier City, but so far has only 9 tables. It will be interesting to see how busy they are during the week, but so far the weekend action looks pretty strong. There were some snags on opening night, as half their staff are Poker room rookies. The operation should tighten up soon and I think it will shape up to be a top flight room. I'll post an update after my next visit later this week. |
Missed the weekend traffic, but I'm told it was big. Jumping both on Friday and Saturday night and that they'd had two 5/10 NL games going in addition to the 2/5 games. It looked pretty played out early Sunday afternoon, but was building back up when I left that evening. I had nice little session and win. Best news, the new end of the casino is open, which means there is nearby access to the new elevators, and more importantly, restrooms. Still having problems moving the list though. I'd recommend calling ahead an hour before arrival and remaining vigilant once you are there, and when you see an open seat, ask for it. |

Ameristar Vicksburg now holding weekly tournaments There may be more coming, but for now Ameristar Vicksburg has a NL tournament Thursday nights at 7:00 p.m. The total buy-in is $70. I haven't played it yet, but have heard good things about the structure and format. |
Ameristar update June 2010: New Games and Promotions I was putting a report together for a local mag and thought I'd share it here: New at the Ameristar Vicksburg poker room: There's a new $5-10-20 Limit Texas Hold 'Em game. Ameristar is now spreading this structured limit game that features a double sized optional bet on the river. The betting rounds are $5 both before and on the flop, $10 on the turn and river, but the players have the option of making a larger $20 bet on the river. This produces an action packed game, but without the big risks found in a no limit game. The regulars have devoted Mondays to playing this game, but is available on request whenever enough players sign up for the list. There is also a regular Omaha Hi/LO game that is played Tuesdays and Fridays starting at 10am. They also regularly spread 3/6 and 4-8 LHE, and 1-3 and 2-5 NLHE, O8. Other games and limits available by request. Players may call ahead to reserve a seat by calling the direct number to the poker room: 601-630-4996. Here's the list of promotions from their June calendar: All month long: Earn tickets every day for the Saturday drawings by getting a full house or better. Mondays: $10 Cash for two hours play, 10 am-noon. Tuesdays & Wednesdays: Splash the Pot all Jackpot eligible games will have $100 added to the pot at the top of the hour from 10am-3pm Thursday; No Limit Texas Hold 'Em tournament at 7:00pm Fridays: Hot Seat drawings for $100 at 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11:00 pm. Saturdays: Full house drawings for $300 at 7& 8 pm, $400 at 10:00pm. Must be present and playing in at time of drawing to win. Also, the Bad Beat Jackpot has recently been restructured and is supplemented by two back-up jackpots, insuring that it will never fall below $50,000. Currently, the main Bad Beat Jackpot is $64,000 and rising. To win it, four of a kind must be beaten. |
