I spent the last few days in Fresno visiting Ed (aka the Rake, Bugsy, Moe Green) and had a great time. I don't write many trip reports for fear my literary talents will be discovered and The New Yorker will try to retain me. I don't write for money, only for the love of ruining perfectly good sentences...here it goes.

While I was there, I placed 5th in the nightly rebuy tournament (about 70 runners) which was alot of fun. I noticed people really like second pair and will call to the river. I was let in cheap constantly by min-raisers off my button or blinds and continually demolished the flop, which led to many new friends :(...AA no good sir. At the final table I was CL when this little gem came up. UTG min-raises and I look down at JJ. I push, MP pushes, and UTG calls with plenty of chips to wait for a better hand. MP shows AJ and UTG turns over Q10 (wtf). [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

I was eating dinner with Ed and Shaun deeb at the Commerce yesterday and they had a laugh at the volume of tournaments I play. I quit playing tournaments a couple months ago and started sng's. Well, the ridicule worked. I played not 1, but 2 tournaments today with my sng's...lol. I took 1st in the FT $10 tourney with about 230 runners and final tabled another. Along with my other games it was a good day. I think i'll start a real schedule and will keep you posted. Thanks guys!

I am looking forward to the LAPC this year, yet again. I hope to see a few of you show up for the series. For the past few years I have played the SnG's and took home a little money but have yet to go really deep in a major event at the LAPC. Although, I have watched my friend (who will remain nameless)...ED, go deep in more than a couple. Who among us will go the deepest? Maybe this year will be different, who knows. I do know it's gonna be a great couple of weeks and I'm looking forward to seeing you there. Good luck.

After a rough month, I cashed out and took some time off. I finally have a few things to talk about so here goes.

I started playing BoDog again this week with 400 points and haven't looked back since. I entered the 400 point tourney and won, giving me a whopping $100 to start playing with. The second tourney I entered was the daily $30 dbl stack. I had a ridiculous chip lead with 12 players to go but lost with AQvs AJ (twice). I played well after that to recover but eventually lost with QQ vs KK o finish in 7th place. The third tourney was the daily $20 rebuy, where I had the chip lead (again) when we got to the final table where I went card dead. I was 3 betting from the button when it was raised from the CO, but it wasn't enough. I eventually lost with AQ vs AJ (again)! After that "hiram" and "daisyxoxo" proceeded to kick the crap outta me...OUT IN 7TH PLACE AGAIN. Bastards! [[ This is a content summary only.
I was playing the FT $26 tournament today and would like some insight on how I played this hand. Sorry about the format. 1000 entrants and about 50 players left.

Blinds 600/1200

Hero 18880 2nd pos holding JJ
Villain 14000 UTG

Villain min-raises to 2400. Hero re-raises to 6800.
Villain pushes. Hero folds.

I thought aces with the min-raise (of course) and am certain it was a good fold. I guess my re-raise after the min-raise bothers me, though. Is a better line to have smooth called and got away from the hand when over-cards came on the flop? Comments welcome. LoF

I was playing a 1/2 game at the Imperial Palace on my off time while I was in Vegas. The poker room is new at IP , and the action is not bad. The 1/2 game plays like a 2/5 and a 5/10 at times (200 max buy-in). The first night I was up about $500 for a couple of hours, so I thought I would try again. The table had two guys who were very aggressive, raising every hand and chasing every draw, no matter what the cost.

Here is a big pot I think is worth talking about. I was in 2nd pos with 66 when it was raised utg by crazy iPod having, gold rim glasses wearing, guy. I called $20, and there were two more callers. The flop was K[d]6[h]10[d]. UTG checks, I lead right out for $60. MP raises to $120 and LP calls. I have about $450 behind and move all-in. MP labors for a while and folds. LP labors even more and calls...WTF?. I am really hoping a [d] doesn't fall, but whatta ya know, BAM! a [d] on the turn. [[ This is a content summary only.
I'll have a couple of trip reports coming soon on my trip to Tahoe and Reno, but first I need to vent about a situation that came up yesterday. I went to Hollywood Park to try for my third win in a row. There were 95 entrants, and things weren't looking good by the 4th level. Finally, I flopped 2 pr on the BB for a big pot, and then had pocket AA hold up. Once I got some chips, I started to move in position. I told myself i would start stealing right before the bubble...and I did. I had a pretty big stack when we were down to about 17 players when people started to play back at me (bastards!). I lost about 8k, but managed to make the final table with about 16 big blinds--plenty for me to work with.

As soon as we're seated, I hear someone say "u wanna chop?" (9 handed). What? Are you kidding me? I object, but everyone else AGREES. I finally gave in, but I thought this was ridiculous. I have never chopped 9-handed and don't intend to again. [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

Lately, it seems the tournaments where I get hit by the deck early, I've been losing late. I played a donkament the other day and had 2 full houses, a nut flush, trips and turned quads...all by the 3rd level. 'Course, I was out by the start of the 4th level.

7,500 gtd on BoDog
Average 2200
blinds 25/50

UTG raises 110 (big stack)6k
2nd Pos calls 110 (2400)
Hero mid pos (AA) raises to 540 (2300)
UTG labors and calls
2nd pos instacalls
Flop 569 rainbow
UTG bets half pot
2nd pos pushes
Hero calls. UTG folds. 2nd pos shows 78o.

I'm not completely clear on the concept, but I think I'm owed a lot of G-bucks.

I have played the 11:30a $25 rebuy tournament at Hollywood Park twice in the last couple of days and what a marshmallow it is! It is impossible to raise without at least three callers from any position. No kicker/no problem reigns sumpreme! You get 300 starting chips and for $20 rebuy you get 1000 chips. I play the cards mostly but the players make it easy to play them, too. Here are a couple of hands from the last one.

Blinds 50/100
average stack 1200

I raise 500 2nd pos with KK
Mid pos reraises all in with 44.
I win!

Blinds 200/400
Average 3200
I raise 4bb with AA (mid pos)
BB calls
Flop Q 9 10
BB pushes (wtf?)
I call and he shows j8o for the straight.
Ugh!

I cashed in the first tournament and bubbled the 2nd and will definitely be back.

There are big differences between Epassporte and Neteller but what choice do we have considering the new legislation. Hopefully poker players and the government will somehow find common ground and this will all be an unpleasant memory soon. Until then if you really want to use your skills you should try your hand at the lotto, scratchers , or maybe the ponys. Lot's of luck!

I agree that the new tournament room at the Hustler is very nice. The new light brown or tan colored tables makes it easier to see the cards when I am in seat 3, 4, 7, or 8. Comfortable chairs and the extra space makes it easier to get in and out of your seat, and the room is well lit.

I also played in the Weds night tournament and noticed the play is really bad early in the tournament. In the middle of the tournament, I had my stack up to about 6,500 when i raised a medium stack on the BB [5xbb] with AKs. He called and flop came K64. He checked and I bet half the pot hoping to keep the hook in when he raised all in! I called the all in, and he showed 86o (wtf?). The river, of course, was the ugliest 8 I've ever seen. I understand the semi-bluff on flop, but the call preflop steamed me a little. I finished the tournament somewhere between 35-38th after a couple more choice hands, but overall I was happy with my play. [[ This is a content summary only.
I was in San Diego over the weekend and I found a cool little poker room called the Lucky Lady. The cardroom is smaller than most LA rooms (about 7 tables, due to city restrictions) but I recommend it if you are in the area. No limit 5/5 and 5/10 games were offered with some 3/6 HE with lots of action. The casino also has a pai gow room if you like to gamble. The staff and room manager were very friendly.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served daily. Nothing on the menu is over four dollars and you get a big plate of food. Look for the room review on this site for more details. If you're in San Diego, check out Lucky Lady.

Not getting hit by the deck late in an MTT

I am a better than average mtt player, but I have a question I would like some feedback on. I make it deep in a lot of mtt's, but it seems like there is something more I should do when I go card dead. Does anyone out there bet hard on an open ended str9 or flush draw late in a tourney for about half of your stack? How often should i do this or should I do it at all? Thanks.
                                                                                      Lake of Fire

Aladdin Tournament

I just got back from Vegas and while I was there i had time to play in a $50 rebuy at the Aladdin. The "room" is small because it is under construction but don't let it stop you from checking out a few games. Tourists abound! The hotel will be Planet Hollywood soon--that's the reason for the construction. The staff was nice and were very helpful. I like the hotel because it's reasonably priced and centrally located on the Strip.

I took 6th place in the tournament and would have done better but it was one of those days that the bb always had a hand which made it difficult to steal from the button. In this tournament, I recommend raising your good hands a large amount (5xbb) because you will get a call or two. Don't get too creative, though, because you don't have to. A simple check and an all in worked for me on a few occasions.

Overall, I like the Aladdin, but if you want great food you might have to walk across the street. [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

I took a 400$ hit to my roll. That may not be alarming to most, but in my world i dont like it a bit. For 2 days my money was in good but drawn out on everytime. Other times raise 5xbb with aces and some donkey calls with 47s and flops two pair, and various hands like that. My question is how long do you sit out? I sometimes take 2 days off and read or watch videos. Just wondering what your cool off period is or if you have one at all. I would like any input on the subject. Thanks,

2500 GTD Ultimate Bet

http://tworags.com/index.php?ACTION=blogs&todo=view&ID=59

I started playing UB again today. It's been a while since I've played there, but I'm pretty happy I did. I won a couple $20 sngs and played in the $2500 GTD MTT. I played tight almost to the second break and then opened up a bit using position. I have a couple BB questions someone might be able to answer. I took 3rd in the tourney (if it wasn't for luck, blah, blah, blah!)...

Blinds 1500/3000

Me BB, 5th in chips around $18,000

SB limps. I have K3

K on turn and I bet pot, SB re-raises. I fold. No draw or str8 on board.

This situation occurred more than once, fortunately not enough to damage my stack. What would you do?

Thanks,
