Space travel and poker.

I have a friend who likes poker and wants to play all the time but will do nothing to try and improve their game. I'm talking about a person who limps every hand, never raise or reraise. Needless to say they never win any of our local tournaments. The theory of this player is " everyone gets 2 cards, I just need to have the best hand on the river ". I have offered them books and web site addresses to help them out but they never took me up on any of them. Then one night I had a good beer buzz going and told them that poker was like space travel. " What? " So then I had to come up with something to explain my new drunken theory. And this was what I told them.

Your goal in a poker tourney is to make final table and win. The goal of space travel is to get to another universe alive. Well if you just just use a ship to get through space it would take so long that you would die before you got there. [[ This is a content summary only.
Are you a Believer?

It has been awhile since my last post. I have been working on finding top players to do a Q & A with me. If everything works out I should have some really good emails coming my way.

This time Believer82 was nice enough to take some time to helpout. Believer82 (JohnyWorld on UB) is ranked 33 on Pocketfives and has put up some very nice scores. Some of his big wins include the UB 75k and the Full Tilt Sunday Mulligan.

How did you get to the high buy-in tournys?

"I got to high buy in tournys over a period of a couple years playing small stakes building up a bankroll and moving into higher buy in tournys, I had won around 200k in online tournys on my own then decided to be staked so I could play a full live and online schedule of higher buy in tourny's."

How do you deal with the frustration of variance?

"Variance can be horrible at times espicailly in tournys you can go a month or two with no scores and run horrible. [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

Take your PURPLEPILS !

Since I haven't been able to post about wins and I didn't want to post about breaking even I went a new direction. I play the lower buy-in MTT's when I can and it seems alot of people that read this site also do. I was wandering how I could improve my game and share it with this site. The idea came to ask top internet players if they would do a Q&A with me that I could share on Tworags.

The first player to come to mind was PURPLEPILS99. I have railed him many times and watched him make some nice scores. I also noticed while railing him that he was very friendly and outgoing to the rail as well as the table. Well I pm'd him and he said yes. I said SWEET! Then I had to come up with questions that I think many low limit players have. I also didn't want to ask too many questions and make it a burden on him. I decided on just a few simple questions.

What limits did you start off at? [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

Well after getting back on stars with a small $50 deposit and playing some sngs to double it I played some MTTs. (I do not use bankroll management with such a small amount.I see no use in grinding out $1 sngs anymore.) I played the $10 10 min level mtt during the week and got 99th for a cash. Then lastnight (fri) I went crazy and played the $10 20k, $10 1r/1a, $5 6max, $3 rebuy, and some $4 180s. I did not cash in any! All of them seemed like free rolls. The play in the $10 20k was the same as a $1 imho. No such thing as fold equity. Atleast I was able to cash in some $3 45man turbos , 6max sngs and Hu sngs while I was getting owned by A2 and K10 in the tournys. I still have some money left so I may give it another try tonight on stars.
