Bay 101 is one of the largest cardrooms in northern California with about 40 tables (about 25 active). The room is located directly on the 101 freeway in an office park within a few miles of the San Jose airport and offers plenty of free parking. Competition includes the smaller, less spacious Garden City Casino in San Jose and Artichoke Joe's to the north in San Bruno.
Bay 101 is considered THE spot for limit hold'em in the Bay area, and spreads a variety of limit, spread limit, Omaha and stud games. Because of it's popularity, waiting list can be long on nights and weekends, often more than an hour. While somewhat tougher than in comparable games in Las Vegas or Los Angeles, the competition here can be inconsistent--tight, aggressives in some games, yet 7 players to a flop in others. New players must post.
Bay 101 also offers daily tournaments and satellites for the Bay 101 Shooting Star, a WPT event held in March. Note: that's the only NL event held at the room. NL is not allowed by law in San Jose.
The room(s) in the facility are large, open (high ceilings) and well-maintained. Bay 101 opened circa 1996, so the building is still relatively new. Likewise, the tables, felt and chairs are in good shape with auto-shuffler installed on all tables.
Food is available tableside with mixed reviews; the Asian fare, though, gets good marks. Players comps are limited to coffee and water. By law, Bay 101 does not offer comps or jackpots.
