 OzzieGrinder:  The Beginning

"I read this article a while back that said that Microsoft employs more millionaire secretaries than any other company in the world. They took stock options over Christmas bonuses. It was a good move.

I remember there was this photograph of one of the groundskeepers next to his Ferrrari. Blew my mind. You see shit like that, and it just plants seeds, makes you think it's possible, even easy. And then you turn on the TV, and there's just more of it. The 87 million dollar lottery winner. That kid actor that just made $20 million on his last movie. That internet stock that shot through the roof. You could have made millions on it if you'd just got in early. And that's exactly what I wanted to do: get in. I didn't want to be an innovator. I just wanted to make the quick and easy buck. I just wanted in."

St. Lucifer:  April's teaching May's promise

Hello all!

I know its been quite some time since I last posted and I feel guilty. So guilty in fact that I was hesitant to create another entry knowing how long ive been away(like I don't deserve to blog).

Anyways April was a very interesting month for me. Being a SnGo enthusiast I recently began starting to learn MTT's as I had almost never played them. I wasn't doing well in early April w/ SnGos on Stars and tried my hand playing 180s. Now with favorable results behind me I am wondering why I hadn't learned to play them sooner (yes cash games one day i assure you)...

Bond18:  The people I know

Spend enough time blogging about your own life and even you get sick of you. I’ve decided to write an entry about those I know in the poker world around me, and take a break from the self indulgent monotony that is talking about myself.

Luckychewy: Over the last six months Chewy is the person I’ve spent the most time discussing poker strategy with. He’s an easy going kid with strong patience and discipline. Chewy plays a pretty TAG game, and his background in cash games makes him a very good hand reader post flop in deep stack situations...

Bond18:  The people I don't know

The blog entry I made about the poker players around me was polite and complimentary, and I’d really hate to get in the habit of that. Today I’d like to put down a list of name players I’ve run into; how they play, what kid of personality they are, and any other anecdotes from my experiences with them.

Scotty Nguyen: Scotty is just the most fun you’ll ever have at the table. He’s pretty much the best ambassador for poker ever. Highly outgoing, friendly, and often drunk with a laugh that can be heard for miles. I used to think Scotty was the ultimate poker playing machine until I actually played him. Unfortunately, Scotty has absolutely atrocious pre flop leaks and tends to make his raise size based on the strength of his hand with way too much consistency. He also slow plays in some pretty absurd spots, which I found out the hard way. Still, of all the pros I’ve played with, Scotty is my favorite to see across the table...

Podiman:   Not Borgata cooler, but Borgata FREEZER

I have never, ever, ever been bent over and f’d as hard as I have today. I was up $1K yesterday playing 2/5 here at Borgata and played well. Was really excited for the $2K deep stack.

So.. We started w/ 30k chips and 50min levels. No major hands but chipped up to 36K when this came up. Blinds are 50/100, in the BB with Ad4d, MP makes it $350, 2 callers in front of me, I call. Flop is Kd2d7c. I check, original MP makes it $800, both fold and I call. Turn is 8d giving me the nut flush. I bet out $2200 and he calls. 2h on the river, I bet out 5K, he makes it 10K, and I am sick. Can I fold?? I can’t, I call and he shows KK for a full house. Can you fold here??

EdmondDantes:   Yin/Yang at Club One Casino

In the Chinese tradition, yin and yang represent “two opposing and, at the same time, complementary aspects of any one phenomenon." Yin qualities are characterized as “passive, dark, feminine, negative, downward-seeking, consuming and correspond[ing] to the night.” Yang qualities are characterized as “active, light, masculine, positive, upward-seeking, producing and correspond[ing] to the daytime.” (quotes from Wikipedia).

Last Saturday, the 5th Annual Flop ‘til You Drop Charity Tournament was held at the Club One Casino in Fresno, California. Councilman Mike Dages (District 5) sponsored the event which included a buffet dinner and poker tournament in which prize money was paid to the charities of the contestants’ choice. Club One matched the prize money, dollar for dollar, and the event raised over $28,000 for local charities.

Special guests included some local celebrities and Fresno native and 2007 WSOP Main Event Champion, Jerry Yang. Yang was a huge hit with both participants and spectators and graciously posed for photos and signed autographs for several hours. He was the invited guest of one of the councilmen and, as it turns out, was related (distantly) to one of the casino hostesses...
