| Looking Back on the Summer |
|
|
I'm pretty much done saying how I got into poker. This entry's going to be a review of my "breakout" summer.
In the spring I had won the $200 HU MTT on PS for $14k or so, and the $10r 55k for about $13k. I was very satisfied with my online results, but one major thing still eluded me. A major live win. In May I was in Vancouver for the Johnny Chan Poker Classic. KalenSC won the first $500 NLH event, then Jeff won the $1k 6max event. The next event was PLH and I final tabled, but ended up losing a critical race at the final table and placed 5th, if I recall correctly for around $13k.
Then later in June I made my first televised final table - a $1k Heartland Poker Tour event at Turning Stone. It wasn't a big deal media wise, but I desperately wanted to win a live tournament. I went into the TV table (final 6) as the chipleader, and played worse than I'm capable of and got coolered out of it to place 4th for ...I don't even remember. Around $12k.

| Back Home Safe |
|
|
Just droppin a quick note to let everyone know that I’ve made it home safe. Happy to report that I didn’t almost die on the drive home, as I did on the way there.
I started driving around midnight. I prefer driving at night as there is less traffic, less sunlight, less stress. No, I don’t have anything against the sun, but it can be annoying when it’s in your eyes for hours. Anyways, I was having some difficulties finding my way out of Canada. I eventually found my way out at the border, but then got slightly lost again on my way to I-90, which is the main road I needed to get on. I asked a gas station attendant for directions, but I still had problems. I had already wasted around 45min driving in circles, so I pulled out my iPhone, which is really what I should’ve done from the start. I looked at the closest street sign.
“Delton Rd”
So I opened the Google Maps function on my iPhone and typed in “Delton Rd NY” and then my home address.

| I think there was some poker in here somewhere |
|
|
I went to Korea to play a poker tournament and then go on vacation for two weeks. The tournament part turned out to be quick and painless - three hours into the thing, QQ ran into a set on a 6 high flop with 60 BB, then, 15 minutes later, ran into another one on an 8 high flop with 25 BB. As they say in this country, gg no re.
I don't actually care about this because, as it turns out, I've been busy watching this:
Yes, that's right, they really do have a Starcraft channel here...actually, two gaming channels, which both mostly show non-stop Starcraft games complete with breathless, excited commentary. If poker ever catches on here, the results will either be really really good or really really bad. I'm not sure which.
When I haven't been watching that, we've been doing stuff like this:

| Taxis, the yellow and black bastards |

Anyways I've been busy the last 3-4 weeks traveling around Europe with different people I meet at my previous locations. Been a great experience so far on my own having a good time, up a bit of money but should of been a lot more some stupid degen moments I may write up about later when I am on not on such a rant mood.
Anyways this rant will be about taxis and how bad they have been for me recently. Anyways Barcelona only had to take 2 of them first one guy spoke no English besides some stuff he learned when he was trying out to become a tour bus driver. All he knew in English was stupid tourist things that I didn't care one bit about at 7am after flying for 8 hours. So a few nights later my WSOPE finally started I was at sportsman casino the furthest away and I had to take the tube for the first time to get there was lost as fuck basically.

| Greetings from the World Series of Poker |
|
|
(I had a strategy blog entry I wanted to write, but I'm putting it off because I had to talk about Vegas.)
So I got to Las Vegas two nights ago. Last year I stayed in a hotel for the duration of the series. I did not want to make the same mistake again, so I rented a house out in Henderson with about five other poker players (I say "about" because it'll be six of us for a couple more weeks, then some houses get shuffled and it drops to five.) I also hired a friend of mine to act as a personal assistant for me and my house, keeping my financial affairs in order and cooking and cleaning and doing anything else that needs doing. We're quite the motley crew but it's working out great.
I played two smaller events yesterday-- the afternoon 1k at the Bellagio and (after I busted with little fanfare in the second level) the 1k 2nd chance at the WSOP.
