Introduction Blog

Hey everyone,

I'm a 21 year old student, born and raised in Houston, TX, and attending college in my hometown. I went to the University of Alabama for two and a half years between 2005 and 2007 and had a fantastic time there.

I began playing online poker for real money in the Spring of 2006. I wasn't the most experienced player, but I was wrecking my home game with friends, had put in a lot of hands at play chip tables, and read a little bit about poker strategy through various websites. I deposited $50 on UltimateBet and looking back realize that I had no true goal. I guess in a way it was more of a test run than anything.

So... I dabbled in cheap $1 SNGs and NL10 tables at first. I learned about multi-tabling and remember I was so excited about it I'd do 9 at a time. I've no idea how I did it, haha, because now I think too much about hands to 9-table. It must've been that I just wasn't thinking back then, haha.

By the summer, I had ran deep in a few MTTs and was putting in thousands of hands per week. I was learning everyday and my bankroll slowly rose to about $2500. Sadly however, this wasn't meant to last. I was still immature and stubborn when it came to bankroll management. I'd heard about it having visited various strategy sites, but can you believe the concept of it bored me? Ha. I played NL200 on <$2k roll, ran well at first, and eventually went bust.

For the next 6 months or so, the same pattern continued. I'd build up my $50 into something meaningful, etc etc etc, and I'd lose it all again. I guess its just one of those lessons that you've got to pay to learn, and little by little it finally stuck.

I realized my problem were cash games. I'd just reload reload and reload and all of a sudden be stuck 8 buyins. MTTs were my bread and butter yet the idea of a quick buck appealed to me. Having matured a little bit more, I'm (almost) completely through with cash games and now solely focus on MTTs. I play on UltimateBet still... under the moniker "birds n bees."

I'm keeping up with this blog to document the ups and downs of poker, but more importantly to become a member of the community and hopefully make a few friends along the way.

Looking forward to writing more and thank you for reading.
