 Live at the Hustler
By EdmondDantes on 11/08/2025 read EdmondDantes' complete blog
I went to the Hustler the other night to check out some of the NL cash games. I sat in a $500 min buy-in (I bought in for $1000)...blinds were $5/$10. Hands of the night for me were as follows.

#1. UTG with AA. It had been an active table so I limp. Sure enough, there's a MP raiser to $30...two callers. Back to me...I reraise to $200. Two folds and the BB, who had called the $30...pushed. I called. He turned over A3o (ok then) and I took down a nice $600 pot. I was the only one all night who limped reraised. I would have done it EVERY time I had JJ+ in EP.

#2. 88 on the DB. An EP raiser to $40 had two callers. I called for $40. Flop came K68 (nice!), two spades. EP raiser bet $120...one caller...$120 to me to call...roughly $400 in the pot. I reraised $300 more (concerned about the flush draw). Both guys looked disgusted and folded.

#3. Couple hands later I'm UTG+1 with JJ. Asian guy (one of the disgusted caller/folders in hand #2 above) put on a $20 straddle.

 Multi-Tabling on Stars
Trip report from PokerStars
By billchoice1 on 11/08/2025 read billchoice1's complete blog
Played some $2-4 on Stars this morning for about an hour. My usual 3 table setup. I have been trying to be a bit more patient and today I made it a goal to keep my VPIP % in the very tight 10-15% range. It's hard to do this when playing live or playing one table but when playing 3 or more tables it's not too difficult because you do see some premium hands. I wanted to only play JJ+, AK and in late position I would open with AJ+ and 88+ from the CO or button. I started off with AA twice and QQ once and all three times I reraised when it was raised to me and everyone folded. Very suprising because this rarely happens.

I then get TT and raise $15 from the button and both blinds call. The flop comes rags and the blinds check. I bet the pot and get check-raised by the BB. I decide to call. The turn pairs the top card which is a 7. The big blind now checks so I check too. The river is an A and the BB checks again. I check and take down the pot. He had 55.

 Borat -- a bit disappointed
By billchoice1 on 11/08/2025 read billchoice1's complete blog
If you know me then you know that I love two things -- poker and Borat. I play poker every chance I get and I just LOVE Borat. The guy makes me laugh it sometimes hurts. A good hurt. I was so jazzed to see the Borat movie and finally got a chance last night. What a disappointment. I actually fell asleep about 2/3rds of the way through.

What I love about Borat is that he interviews real people and they think they are really talking to this strange dude. He gets them to say some very politically incorrect things and it's usually very funny. While he does do some of this in the movie, the majority of the movie is filled with staged scenes. I guess the filmmakers felt that they needed some kind of structure to keep it moving, but it just didn't work for me. I want real people, not actors.

Sick $2/5 NL hand - a VERY costly mistake
Trip report from Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino (Harrah's)
By lakong on 11/08/2025 read lakong's complete blog
I stayed at the Rio the last time I went to Vegas. I had a pretty sick hand come up at the $2/5 NL table. My action on the river still bothers me a few months after the hand. I hope I learned something from this hand and hopefully some of you can too -- or maybe you wouldn't be so stupid to make this mistake in the first place.

The two players in the hand -- especially the initial better -- were action junkies who would raise with a many hands. I had played with the EP guy for many hours and he did appear to be a strong player, not sure about the MP guy.

I have a deep stack, around $1,300, both opponents are much shorter -- see comments on this below.

Dealt JJ on Button. EP makes it $25, MP calls, I bump to $100, both call after some deliberation.

Flop: T86 rainbow (pot about $300)

Both check to me, I make it $150. Both call.

Turn: offsuit 9. (pot about 750)

Early position player makes it $200. MP calls, I call.

 Random thoughts on poker
By lakong on 11/08/2025 read lakong's complete blog
I haven't played since the Anti-gambling legislation was signed. Since I usually play on Pokerstars there is nothing really stopping me, but I guess I'm just a bit tired with poker and I thought a break would be a good thing. In fact, I haven't played live in a few month too.

I played in about 6 events during the World Series and really got burned out by it. The World Series was a big zero for me this year. Last year I didn't do very well either during the events, but I had a great run in the satellites and actually came out ahead. Plus, in most of the events when I did get knocked out it was usually the result of bad beats or just getting cold decked. For example, I lost in the Main Event when I hit a full house on the turn only to find out that my opponent flopped quads!

This year I just didn't play well. Now sometimes, bad play can be easily masked by getting lucky. This year I had no luck AND I played poorly. Not a good combination.

 A little $5/10 No Limit
Trip report from Bellagio
By tateissy on 11/07/2025 read tateissy's complete blog
Visited Vegas last weekend with some old friends. Unfortunately they are not poker players but we hadn't seen each other for a few years and had a great time. On Saturday night after a few hours of partying we made our way to the Bellagio and left the gang at the craps tables and headed over to the poker room. I just love the Bellagio. Haven't played here much, but it is so classy and I have always done well here. Yes, I know the players are usually pretty good, but I find that late at night you get some fishy players, especially at the $5/10 NL tables. I think some of these guys are out with their girlfriends and are trying to impress. They probably don't have the skill level for $5/10, but are letting the beer tell them that they can score big.

Anyway, nothing happens for the first hour and then this hand comes up. I get dealt K 3 in the BB, and a really loose player in EP makes it $40 to go.

Which online sites are still allowing US players?
By legislation on 11/07/2025 read legislation's complete blog
As most of you know, Party Poker and other online poker sites no longer allow US players to play real money poker on their sites. At the same time, Pokerstars, Full Tilt, Bodog, Absolute and Doyle's Room continue to serve US players and are thriving. To learn more about who is in and who is out you click here .
