They Give You This, But You Pay For That

I’d like to think the title of this post pretty much sums up Las Vegas. Currently in a massive STD scare. It’s obviously all over the news here, I’m curious as to how much press this will be getting when I arrive home tomorrow night. It’s really sick that one of the biggest cities/tourist destination’s can't maintain clean clinic's.

Oh wait, no….that sounds like Las Vegas.

I’ve had a good few days here in Vegas, but I don’t think I’ll ever spend time here without thinking how backwards this place can be. Obviously the incident of the HIV/Hepatitis malpractice was coincidental, but there’s a lot of things that could be considered “morally grey,” or just straight up wrong, around me. Maybe it’s the fact I had such a solid family upbringing with good values that makes me kind of tingle when I see a gigantic billboard (with the number) to file for a divorce.

Anyways, the PokerVT filming went smoothly. It was great to be able to talk about the project in person and become more knowledgeable about the poker industry in general. I went over some critical hands I’ve played, did some basic bio stuff and answered some Q&A. I’m really looking forward to the launch of VT next month.

That’s really it for now. Lookin forward to gettin back home.

Later guys,

Bellagio

I vividly remember my last trip departing from Las Vegas back home to Cleveland. I told myself I'd never return to Vegas until I was 21. While I had a good time with my friends for a few weeks last summer, it was overall a gigantic tease. Watching huge live events play out everyday (WSOP/Bellagio Cup), was practically torturous.

Well GUESS WHERE I AM!

Haha, I'm currently at the Bellagio (which is v. nice might I add). I'm not here to visit friends like I was last year though - this time around I'm here for PokerVT filming. I didn't sleep on Sunday night and just stayed awake til my flight left at noon on Monday. I got a couple good hours of sleep in on the flight, but I'm obviously still exhausted. I'm currently just relaxin in my room, might hit up the hot tub.

Tomorrow I'll be going over some of my instructional material for PokerVT, as well as random media stuff. The more I realize the potential of this project, the more excited I get. I'm really unsure of how much I'm supposed to "give away" about this project, but I can tell you we're on schedule to launch in the near future. It should be a great opportunity, and something to keep me busy until I'm 21.....

Well, I'm just gonna kick back and relax, probably goto sleep a little early tonight. I've got a massage scheduled for tomorrow morning, and then it's showtime in the studio.

It's Been Awhile

Hey guys,

I know it’s been awhile since my last entry, just not a lot to report.

I haven’t been playing too much poker. Today was the first day I played tournaments in about 10 days. Although on Saturday I “goofed around” with a friend and played 1/2NL HU and ended up winning 5 buyins off of him ($1k). Then decided to play “pokerts” in a $2k HU SNG and took that down. Besides that, today was the first day I played tournaments in awhile.

I ran into some pretty tough luck in the bigger tournaments. I took 13th in the $100r for $1,880 (1st = $40k). Then lost a race and was busto in the Super Tuesday ($1k buy-in) pretty quickly with AK < QQ AIPF.

Stars has these new 4-max 10min level tournaments, which I really like. I enjoy turbo’s and playing 4-max takes a lot more skill than full ring. At any rate, I cashed in both the $80+8 buyin one (14th for $360), then took 3rd in the $50+5 one for $1.7k.

Overall I’m pretty satisfied with my play, and even better than the days profit (a whopping $1k), I recorded the last hour of the $50+5 4-max tournament live for PokerVT. I was really hoping I could’ve taken it down, just cause having an MTT win recorded live would be badass, but in the end I took 3rd….but not before recording some pretty good poker. I think it was likely the best video I’ve made so far - lots of decisions playing shorthanded, and I’m pretty sure that the viewers will appreciate the fact it was recorded live, not done on a replayer.

I suppose that’s all for now. In less than a week I’ll be on a plane to Vegas to film for PokerVT - should be a good time.

Recent Interview

Just a quick update. I recently did an interview for pokertips.org.

Here's the link

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm a pretty brutally honest guy when it comes to my life, and posting these blogs. When they asked what would've happened to me if poker hadn't worked out for me or if I hadn't found it, my answer was "I'd probably be dead."

As over dramatic as it may seem, I have fairly strong convictions that, if I hadn't found poker, that would've been the case.

Poker came into my life just at the right time. As most of you know by now, I was 16 and begun undergoing a series of operations that were torturous, mentally and physically. I feel as though without poker I could have easily became a statistic.

I received a lot of criticism from a blog I wrote awhile ago, "How I got into poker part 3.5." I really just want to say that most of that entry was copy-pasted from my logs back from when I was 17. It really was the worst time of my life and I'm somehow still with us today.

What's New

Let’s see what’s been going lately…

Saturday I slept through the morning tournaments…including the FTOPS $2,500….sigh. I woke up at 3pm and it started at 2pm. Bleh. I decided to just skip the day, and ended up driving around. I soon found myself at the Mall, buying a Playstation 3 with a handful of games and Blu-ray movies. It looks as though the HD-DVD vs. Blu Ray war is over, and Blu Ray has won, so I went ahead and bought a PS3, which has a built in blu ray player, and is nearly the same cost as a stand-alone blu ray player.

Why get a PS3 now? Well, I figured I may as well upgrade to the Blu Ray format with the addition of my new television…..which should be arriving in just about two hours.

Yep, that’s right…the Best Buy Geek Squad is scheduled to come over at 8am to install my new television. I bought the Pionner Kuro 50in Plasma Flat Panel HDTV. It’s been called the best television on the market, and I’m pretty damn excited to get it installed.

The Geek Squad’s going to be mounting the 50in beast onto my wall, and then connecting it to surround sound.

The great part?

Well, instead of having speaker wire, A/V, and HDMI cables hanging around they’re going to be drilling holes in the walls (yes, it’s allowed in my apartment, haha) and concealing the cables - it’s going to look amazing, and of course I’ll post some pictures when it’s finished.

————————————-

Although I didn’t play in as many tournaments as I did last Sunday, I still managed to enter quite a few. I stopped registering at 8:00pm, as opposed to last Sunday, when I registered til midnight. I ended up making a decent sized final table, but took 9th for $2,250. Despite that finish, I still lost around a thousand on the day (which is basically breaking even). I had a couple close calls and got pretty unlucky in some critical spots, or else the tone of this entry would be very different. I can’t really complain though. Overall the last few weeks my results have been very satisfactory, I’ve made a lot of money, and I feel as though I’m improving as a player.

I’m not sure how much poker I’m going to be playing this week. I have a Dr. Appt, as well as an appointment with my accountant. I also have some plans with some friends. I’m hoping I’ll find a good balance between grinding the online tourneys and having a social life.

EPT Barcelona Coverage

Well, it took a long time, but I finally found the EPT Barcelona produced coverage online. The final table isn’t uploaded yet, but the first 2 episodes are on Pokertube right now.

Here’s the link to the first episode. If you scroll down you’ll be able to see the following episodes (so far there are 2 uploaded, each into quarters).

I’m only involved in 2 big hands, but it’s interesting to watch the entire thing, because you’ll be able to see that my opponent was really tilting when he 4-bet me AIPF with QJo and I made the call with ATo. The other hand I’m involved in was the huge value bet I made on the river with QQ on the KJxxx board. I made a huge pot sized river bet vs the perfect opponent and he paid it off. Be sure to check it out.

————-

I’ve been making a lot of videos for PokerVT, and am flying Vegas to work in the VT studio on March 4th. I might extend my trip out on the west coast for a few extra days, but I’ll be there to do some interviews, as well as some instructional work.

I guess that’s about it for now. Ray’s currently in LA, so I have the place to myself. Tomorrow there’s a bunch of big MTT’s, including a 2 day event on FTP, the FTOPS $2,500 - so assuming I’m awake (I swear to god if I sleep through….), I’ll be in there.

Good luck at the tables everyone and thanks for reading,

-Adam Junglen

2nd Place Again... sigh

Today I grinded out a TON of tournaments.

I was actually running horribly in all of the bigger buy-in tournaments. I won’t bore you with specific details, but I was extremely frustrated with how the day was going. Despite all the horrible beats, I played almost every tournament with a buy-in > $50 that was registering from 4pm - 12am. I felt as though I was playing well and the fields were extra big today, making the prize pools even juicer.

Well, I did end up taking 2nd place in the PokerStars $50+5 50k Guarantee. I’m still really frustrated that I lost the heads-up match, as I had my opponent down several times, and then the final hand got the money in as a slight favorite (Overs + FD vs pair), and I couldn’t win the flip. I did make some mistakes HU and was able to recover, but in the end my opponent prevailed. $10k is still a nice payday.

I’ve made quite a bit of money the last few days, so I certainly can’t complain. I’ve also truly earned the scores - as I’ve been grinding out a ton of tournaments. February 6th and 10th combined I’ve played over 50 multi-table tournaments, which is more than I played in December and January combined.

I’m sure I’ve mentioned it in a previous post, but moving out has obviously increased my motivation to crush online tournaments. I’m feeling really great about my game and hope to take down a big score real soon.

The New Apartment

Well, here they are - pictures of my new pad. The pictures might be a little sloppy, but I really wasn’t too concerned with quality when I was taking the pictures. Keep in mind that the TV in the pictures is just a temporary, until I get my new 50in mounted. I turned the sunroom into an office that's big enough for both my setup and Ray's as well. It also came with very nice walk-in closets, and all the big appliances - including a washer/dryer.

Let me know what you think.

Enjoy.

Back to the Grind

Well, I’m just about all settled in my new apartment.

Today I got a ton of furniture delivered. My apartment is nearly completely furnished, and I’m loving it. The only thing I’m waiting on is the new TV I recently purchased. It’s the Pioneer Kuro 50in flat panel plasma HDTV. It was on backorder, and will be in stock in about 10 days. From all of the reviews I’ve read, many consider it to be the best television on the market. I’m having the Best Buy Geek Squad come by and mount the TV on the wall, as well as hide the speaker wire through the wall. It’s going to look great.

I played most of the online tournaments that started between 6pm - 11pm. I ended up going deep in many of the tournaments, including multiple final table bubbles and multiple final tables. The biggest cash of the day was when I took 2nd in the FTP $109 6max. Second place is always extremely brutal, and I ran atrocious heads-up.

Other notable finishes include:

8th in the UB 11pm ($400)
Final 2 tables in the AP $1k ($1.6k)
Final 2 tables in the UB $150+12 ($255)
Final 2 tables in the PS $300+20 ($2,250)

I believe there are a few other cashes I didn’t note.

All in all it was a fairly profitable day (made around $8k), but it was still frustrating. In the PS $300 (1st was $65k) I constantly ran into my opponents big hands. I couldn’t catch a break in the $1k, and again the $109 6max where I got 2nd for $5k, I really feel like I should’ve won. That was really disappointing. It’d been a long time since I put in an online MTT session. I love my new desk that’s in my new office and I really enjoyed playing poker on my new setup.

While I’m not going to start playing MTT’s 7 day a week like some grinders, as long as I continue to enjoy playing MTT’s like I did today then you can expect to see me playing the nightly tourneys 3-4 days a week.

I’m taking a break from tournaments tomorrow but, but might work on some PokerVT material, and I’ll also post some pictures of my new pad.

Later,

Adam Junglen
