  Hawaiian Gardens Casino

Nice alternative to the Commerce or Bike

 Overall Impressions

Category rating:
Hawaiian Gardens is underrated, in my opinion. The casino facility isn't as aesthetically appealing as the Commerce or the Bike, but there's always plenty of action and the staff is great. If you're looking for a fancy casino with first-rate food service, this isn't your spot. But if you're looking for reliable action in mid stakes hold'em games, this is great alternative to Commerce or the Bike. If I lived closer, this would be my regular haunt.

 Atmosphere

Category rating:
It's pretty basic inside, nothing fancy. The "casino" is really a couple of Sprung tents set up back in 1998, but everything's in good shape. The felt on the table in the low stakes NL rooms is a funky vinyl, though--that took a little getting used to. In the main rooms, the tables have regular felt. Spacing can be an issue for bigger players. HG packs tables into every square foot of space. All tables have auto-shufflers.

 Dealers

Category rating:
First-rate. They shut up and deal and do it well. I've yet to see a misdeal or chatty dealer.

 Food and Drink

Category rating:
Food and beverage service is easy to get table side. It's not as good as Oceans 11 or the Bike, but it gets the job done. Service is friendly and responsive; I never had to hunt to find service.

 Wait Time/Overall Service

Category rating:
It's easy to get seated in all but the highest limit games (10/20 NL, for example). On a recent Thursday night, I was seated immediately at one of 16 low stakes NL tables and within 15 minutes for a $500 buy-in table.

 Comps

Don't know; didn't ask.
