Why am I still a donkey

Live play is fun

WOW, what a night. I finished playing a 13 hour session and ended up $470. I was on top of my game tonight, through out the 13 hour session I managed to only show my hand 6 times. 6 out of the 6 I was a overwhelming favorite. I was all in with kings 4 times, queens once and aces once. Unfortunately they all didn't hold up, infact only 2 of them held up. My kings where cracked by AK 3 times and aces cracked by 8's. Other than that I managed to take down a number of good sized pots with aggressive play.

I had the pleasure of playing with Peter Aristidou tonight, he was very polite and friendly and very aggressive. Peter is currently siting in 2nd position in the Crown's Poker Player of the Year. I am sure with the Melbourne Poker Championships starting this sunday Peter will be number 1 shortly.

I think that I was really happy about was the quality women that where playing, it was really good to see. On girl was on my table was a hottie and she played really really well. She played very aggressive and made the right dissisions most of the time. She made a good call with pocket queens on draw heavy board. All in all shes the type of bird you would take home to meet mum.

Ben Hudson, Scott Welsh and Nathan Eagleton(all AFL football players) sat at my table, I soon came to relise 2 things. The first was they where all donkeys and the second thing is Nathan Eagleton is a complete dick head. Scott and Ben where very nice blokes. It was hard to concentrate when Ben who is 6foot 7inches telling this tiny greek dude that "my mum is bigger than your mum", then ben giving him shit about his leather jacket. To be honest it could quiet possible have been the worst jacket I have ever seen in my life. I was straight out of the 80's.

As i mentioned the Melbourne Poker Championships start sunday, I am not sure how many events I will play in. I will defiantly be playing in the $100k guarantee friday the 16th and the main event on friday the 23rd. The poker pro event may tempt me, it has a starting bank ok 10k in chips which suits my play. The teams event is another event that may tempt me.

Anyway I am so tired at the moment this bold will make no sense what so ever, I am off to bed.

The Beginning

"I read this article a while back that said that Microsoft employs more millionaire secretaries than any other company in the world. They took stock options over Christmas bonuses. It was a good move.

I remember there was this photograph of one of the groundskeepers next to his Ferrrari. Blew my mind. You see shit like that, and it just plants seeds, makes you think it's possible, even easy. And then you turn on the TV, and there's just more of it. The 87 million dollar lottery winner. That kid actor that just made $20 million on his last movie. That internet stock that shot through the roof. You could have made millions on it if you'd just got in early. And that's exactly what I wanted to do: get in. I didn't want to be an innovator. I just wanted to make the quick and easy buck. I just wanted in."

Even though this quote came from the movie Boiler Room, a truer word has never been spoken.

My name is Luke, I am Australian, 24 years of age and inspiring to become a successful poker player. Over the past 3 years I have had a obsession with poker, I caught the bug bad (I mean REAL BAD). I have just about every poker book ever written, subscribed to all the training sites. Put in 1000's of hours study and playing time into poker.

Why don't I win you ask? I don't win because I am not disciplined enough, I grind out a 3k profit online playing the 0.50/1.00 NL game then I decide to go play a $5/$10 RAZZ game (which i don't have the slightest idea of how to play) or Annie Duke will log onto the $10/$20 NL game and I blow my entire roll. This has happened on numerous occasions.

2 years ago I spent a month in vegas, went to the Bellagio played in a NL game. Played well and got lucky and won 40k, at end of the month I was playing $500-$1000 blackjack per hand, trying to impress 2 women. Needless to say 24 days of grinding out a good earn and a bankroll of near on 50k went down the drain in a 2 hour brain explosion (I didn't even get to tap the two of them either). So I had to put my tail between my legs, call Mum and Dad and get them to fly me home. Broke, unemployed and depressed (even though it was the most amazing trip of my life, hookers and blow baby)

Enough about the past, right now I am living in Melbourne. I moved down from Alice Springs 3 weeks ago, I have been into the poker room 17 times playing the $2/3 NL (Although I feel my game is more suited to the $5/$10, my bankroll isn't big enough YET!!!) the $2/3 game is the WEAKEST live game i have ever come across. You get these donkeys sitting next to you telling you how they grind out $300,000 a year playing the $2/3. BULLSHIT, these wankers are happy to call their chips off when they are a 4/1 dog and only getting 2/1 pot odds.

You sit there and watch these idiots playing every hand, I won't play a hand in 3 orbits, make a raise and get 7 callers. How they can sit there and say they take home almost 6k a week has got me stuffed.

Anyway my goal with my blog is to embarrass myself by putting up all my donkey players and brain explosions. I look forward to your comments.
