The Bike's Nooner Nite 7/15/08

Bicycle Casino
This is my first trip report so bare with me.

I really have not played much poker in a long time. I played 2 events at The Bike's 30/20 series last month with one small cash. But other than that it has been a long time since I have played any poker.

Last night (7/15) after work I went to The Bicycle Casino for their nightly Nooner Nite tournament. It was a 50+10 and started at 7pm closing at 7:30pm. I got there right at 7 and sat at my table with only 3 other players at the moment.

Level 1: 2000 to start 25/25 20 minute blinds.

First hand red QQ raised to 75 one caller. Rag flop, I bet 250 he calls, rag again, I bet 400 he thinks and folds. I maybe should of bet 300 but I was fine with taking down the first hand. The table finally filled up as more people registered. Not much else this round, raised some with middle/small pairs but usually got RR or missed a flop and had to check fold.

Level 2: 1800 25/50

Nothing much this round. A few raises and CB.

Level 3: 2125 50/100

Not getting many hands to do anything with. Small pairs or face cards are coming but when i am in EP. So just some steals. I do get some chips from a big blind special with 10 5 off when I flop two pair and river a full house.

Looking at my chicken scratch of notes (I really hadn't planned to take many) I got up to 2800 this level but lost some back. But I didn't note how.

Level 4: 2300 75/150

Still really card dead. But one of the things that I am good at is patients. I start playing cards live verse starting online. So I am used to the slow speed and what not.

My patients is reward when I pick up black KKs right near the end of this level. 2 people limped and I raised and received one caller. With a Q high flop I moved in and was called by 10 10. KK held up and I doubled up right as the level ended. We went on a 10 minute break.

Level 5: 4375 100/200

I have a problem of letting one or two hands of junk/suited what nots slip in my play. So EP i raised to 400 with J8s. Raising to 400 or 500 here works fine in this tournament. A LP min raised me there is one caller so I call. Ugggg why do I do this to myself. I see an 8 as the door card and get a little excited, maybe I can bad beat some peps. Flop is K8Q I check the LP bets out next guy gets it in I fold LP calls. Turn is the J that would of given me two pair, but i had no right to be in the hand to start with. I would of busted both of them.

Level 6: 4375 100/200 25a

So AQ > AK and I knock a player out with a Q on the flop and the nut spade draw. Then I raise with J10c get re-raised. I would usually just fold but this player as been RR me a lot and seeing me fold. I call a J hits the flop and I check and call his All IN. J10c >AKo

I chip me down a little bit then I push with 77 and run into a shot stack with K9 that takes me down some more. Then AQ=A9<Q6 with a double paired board.

All in all with the antes and blinds and some missed flops I run up to 7750 but end the level down to 4600.

Level 7: 4600 150/300 50a

Not a lot of action for me here. I tried to push when I could. But really nothing great.

Level 8: 3850 200/400 75a

Not really any notes here, just push and take the blinds and antes to try to stay alive. I pick up a couple pots and get a little higher.

Level 9: 6300 300/600 100a

Again this is push and pray mood, but most people are so passive. Unfortunately I am not getting any hands at all. AQ>10 3 off Small blind pushes into me and I snap call. I am so glad I bust him he has been very annoying the whole time. A regular who is a know it all. Puts on a show and slows things down. I get a little more push and no calls to stay a float.

Level 10: 7200 400/800 100a

I have been moved to the final 2 tables. Again this is all or nothing. I steal some. I chop a pot with another A rag. Should of doubled up with AK but the guy folded saying he had AJ, which should of been a call for him.

Last hand SB with A10h push BB calls with AK flop to hearts and a paired board, brick on turn. Need a 10, heart or board pair to stay alive. Nada. I'm out 12th no money.

There were 85 runners. 1st was 1700, 2nd 975 3rd 510 before any chops that I am sure happened. I enjoy this tourny since it would be over by about midnight, they start another 40 + 10 at midnight.

The play is fairly average/bad. Nothing really tricky, ABC poker or worse than that. Not much concern about M. But you have to take that into account in this tourny. There where plenty of times that a shove was the "correct" play but here you can get away with min raise and take it down. Or even min raise and fold and still keep chips to double up with. I took the patient approach and that usually works well for me. There was one kid that was moved to my table that was aggro and called down a lot. But he played junk or A rag and it caught up to him.

Next time I will bring a small notebook to take better notes. I just wrote in the margins of the tourny structure sheet.

That is it for now. I am hoping to maybe go up to the Club One for their tourny beginning of August if I can continue to go deep in these and know my game is shaking the rust off.
