Default Soooo close!!!

Won a seat to the $150+13 65k on fulltilt earlier today via a $26 STT. Normally i just unregister and use the $T for other tournaments that i normally play, but for some reason today i said to hell with it, i'm gonna take a shot. And a nice shot it
turned out to be. I haven't reviewed it yet but i feel i played a pretty solid game and was really comfortable throughout the tourney. Saw some pretty big names in there too; AJK, Perljammed and some others.

Anyway i busted 26th when my AA ran into a flopped straight by villain with AJ. I don't think villain played it bad, his pre-flop call was reasonable imo, i just got unlucky on the flop. The only question in my mind is could i have gotten away? ...

I don't put in the volume or thinking that some of the other guys here do, but I'm not wild about the min-raise pre-flop. I'm not saying the result ends up differently, but I think a more normal pre-flop bet telegraphs less and gets more of your opponent's dough in wrong.

And as played, I like the flop bet, but I don't shove the turn. Why is he smooth-calling that flop? If he hit his spade, you're dead. If he flopped two pair or a set, you're drawing thin. If he's searching for a straight, he's 6 to 1 against to miss, so a check or smaller bet gets the job done. The only hand that calls you, kills you...QJ/JT fold...KJ or AK might call, but I'd expect AK to raise pre and both to shove on your flop bet. Put differently, it's not a move that generates a mistake by your opponent so I wouldn't be inclined to do it.

Unhappy

I had been raising 2.5xbb for a few levels at this point, so i didn't want to change to 3 - 4xbb suddenly. Your analysis is spot on though, the turn is where i really blew this hand. Unfortunately i did not think it through at the moment... a mistake i will learn from

The raise pre is fine. I think you're going broke here no matter what. The flop obviously blows but they're going to call with any draw and king so you're still ahead a good percentage of the time against his range. The only way you could have gotten away is to check the turn and hope he checks and when the 4th spade hit on the river you could have check folded but I would never take that line.
