Default A Week in Africa

I am currently sitting in an internet cafe near central Nairobi. It has been one week since I've arrived now, and it has not been without incident. I have a couple hours to kill today because I'm supposed to go to a bank in the city to retrieve the
credit-debit card an ATM at the mall ate yesterday. The volunteer program I've gone through had required their final payment and their online processor didn't except either of my otherwise fully functional credit cards for some inexplicable reason
(probably because of my lateness, which was my fault) so I was told I needed to get cash or would have to leave the program. I went to the ATM to get out 51,000 Kenyan shillings (about ~650 USD) and after getting 20,000 out and attempting a number of ...

This reminds me of that old comedy routine where a couple moves into an old house and then hear whispers saying "get out, get out" and they refuse to go.

I'll yell it for ya bud...."GET OUT!!!!"

Bond18 I have been lurking on this site for about a month. I am about 3/4's of the way through your 'Things it took me awhile to learn." series. Today I decided to check out your blog and this was the 1st one I read.

First of all I want to commend you on volunteering for these children. What you are doing is so much more important than the many things in life we experience. Regardless of the rampant corruption, you are doing a good thing.

Second thank you for the great series. I happened upon a link at pocketfives and was very surprised I had not seen this before.

Thanks again and good job!

Hey Tony. Been reading your blog for a while. One of the most well written ones I've come across and one of the few i keep up with.

Just wanted to commend you on your volunteer work in Kenya. I was born and raised in Nairobi. Came to Melbourne when I was 17 to continue studying. So I can relate to a lot of the things that you pointed out in this entry. Way to go on pointing out and bringing awareness to some issues like corruption.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your time there. And definitely visit Mombasa (and Malindi.. that's the place one of the previous posters was refering to I'm sure).
