Are you a Believer?

It has been awhile since my last post. I have been working on finding top players to do a Q & A with me. If everything works out I should have some really good emails coming my way.

This time Believer82 was nice enough to take some time to helpout. Believer82 (JohnyWorld on UB) is ranked 33 on Pocketfives and has put up some very nice scores. Some of his big wins include the UB 75k and the Full Tilt Sunday Mulligan.

How did you get to the high buy-in tournys?

"I got to high buy in tournys over a period of a couple years playing small stakes building up a bankroll and moving into higher buy in tournys, I had won around 200k in online tournys on my own then decided to be staked so I could play a full live and online schedule of higher buy in tourny's."

How do you deal with the frustration of variance?

"Variance can be horrible at times espicailly in tournys you can go a month or two with no scores and run horrible. It can be pretty frustrating, and make you not play your best at all. I try to just treat everyday I play as a brand new day and forget what happened the day before and just try and play your A game at all times and eventually you will pull through the rough patch. Study on your game also. "

What is a good strategy for playing during early levels at a table full of limpers?

"During the early level play a tight aggressive game. Raise 3 times the bb and one extra time for every limper is a ok strategy. Also you can limp your suited connectors weaker hands to try and flop a monster and snap off a weaker hand .. but I dont think you should be playing tricky the first hour just play a solid A game"

Late in a tourny, near bubble w/ a stack of 10bb on a table w/ no other shortstacks, how would you play?

"Late in a tourny 10bb is about the point you stop raising and start shoving, you dont have a big enough stack to reraise and get someone to fold. Dont get blinded down though you can wait a orbit or two dont get below 7 bb. I would shove any two before then. Once you get up to 13 14 bb you can make a standard raise again if you wish but then its back to shoving."

Best tip you would give lower level players?

"At lower levels no need to be tricky just play a tight aggressive game . Pick on the weak players near the bubble and big money spots.. Study alot online and get PokerXfactor or some online tools to improve your game and talk poker with better players than you."

Thanks Believer!!
If you happen to see Believer82 stop by and give him a thank you.

Take your PURPLEPILS !

Since I haven't been able to post about wins and I didn't want to post about breaking even I went a new direction. I play the lower buy-in MTT's when I can and it seems alot of people that read this site also do. I was wandering how I could improve my game and share it with this site. The idea came to ask top internet players if they would do a Q&A with me that I could share on Tworags.

The first player to come to mind was PURPLEPILS99. I have railed him many times and watched him make some nice scores. I also noticed while railing him that he was very friendly and outgoing to the rail as well as the table. Well I pm'd him and he said yes. I said SWEET! Then I had to come up with questions that I think many low limit players have. I also didn't want to ask too many questions and make it a burden on him. I decided on just a few simple questions.

What limits did you start off at?

"Limits I started at were play chips obv, I used to play play chips for hours and freerolls to get better, I didnt care about the money, I played for the love of the game and to try to beat out my opponents as I am very competitive ."

Which sytle do you think works best in $10 -$30 mtt's?

"The style I think works best in 10-30$mtts is to just play really solid poker because there are alot of horrendous players who are very willing to give away all of their chips."

First level of the $10 20k on stars, JJ on button , utg+2 raises 3bb, whats your play?

"The first level of pretty much any mtt in this situation I flat call with JJ because there is no point reraising to make the pot big when you can just see a flop, hope to spike a set and stack someone, if overs come you can muck easily without losing many chips, and if the board is low just keep the pot small and get value out of your overpair."

Best tip you could give a low limit mtt player.

"Best tip I could give an up and coming player is to beat the lower levels first and then advance as you beat the levels, start off freerolls, once you can beat them move up and etc 5$ 10$ 15$, be patient, dont move up stakes too quickly. Beat the easier mtts and move your way up as you continue to get better."

PURPLEPILS99 is ranked 56th on pocketfives and is sure to be moving up. Keep your eyes open, you will find him on final tables everywhere.
