I have plenty to talk about today. Also I want to thank you guys for your comments, keep them coming.

Borgata Deep Stack 5K

One of my two friends busted very early on a day 2 cooler when his trips ran into the same trips but lost to a bigger kicker. My other friend, Eric Bankoff, had a fine Day 2 ending the session with a big 325K stack. They begin the day with 49 players left. 18 places pay. Keepin’ my fingers crossed……….

Quick Cash Update

Sunday was good for a 3 buy in positive gain. I was wrapping up my early Monday morning session with a profit in tow when I flat called a raise from a tight UTG on the button w 76s. Sorry I’m typing this out, can’t seem to locate the hand in my files to use the converter. The BB who is a bluffing LAG type completes and we see a suited flop of J76. BB cks, UTG bets out and I raise. BB reraises and UTG folds. I’ve seen the BB spew so much $ in the last half hour I decide I’m not folding so we see a harmless turn card. BB leads out & I call. River is also harmless so if he was chasing the flush w the Ace he missed. He leads out again and I call, he flips K2 suited and turns my session into a ½ buy in loss for the day. Meh.

Will I ever fill up when I’m behind? Sorry this has been a recurring theme over the last few weeks. People are filling up against my straights and flushes and I’m continually losing with 2-pair and sets in all sorts of funky ways, both in tournaments and cash games. Ok enough with the rant, it’s all in good fun.

Monday Tournaments

Found time to squeeze in a session that I started at 4:30PM. I loaded the Full Tilt $30 Rebuy & $120 Knockout as well as the Poker Stars 25K Guaranteed & the $50 Rebuy. There was a recurring theme to my day, my table positioning was horrific. I had Jurollo to my left in 3 of the 4 tournaments I played in yesterday. When he wasn’t there I had Scott Clements or allinstevie on my direct left and all of them always had plenty of chips. Made for an interesting and challenging day.

25K Guaranteed – 1st hour I’m cruising along when I flop a set of 5’s – presto. Villain turns a gutshot straight and the river bricks and I’m down to 70 chips. Hello……. pair the board 1 time dealer, one time?!? Blah. I short stack my way back to 570 chips but bust when my A10s runs into AQ and KK.

$30 Rebuy – chip up 1st hour, nothing special. Have a really good 2nd hour which vaults me into the top 10 in chips. I then slowplay AA and lose a pretty significant pot to Q10 that flopped 2 pair (he would of course go on to win the tournament). Now with 32 left, 18 spots pay I’ve slipped back to the pack a bit when I picked up this hand. UTG +1 is Scott Clements (directly to my left):

Kudos to Scott on this hand, very well played sir. It’s easy to see why you’re making a run at Card Player Magazine’s Player of the Year Standings. My thoughts on this hand were fairly simple. Scott could be flatting me with a wide range here and c/o could easily be making a move with position. I started the hand with 25 BB’s and was destined to go broke no matter how it played out as the case Ace flopped. I’m just not laying down AK here.

$50 Rebuy – I doubled up early in the Rebuy period and then at the 100 level lost half my stack when the BB defended against my hijack raise w A6o. I had A10s and flopped the nut draw. Villain check called my c-bet on a J63 flop. Villain then led when another 3 came on the turn, I didn’t put him on a strong hand and definitely not a 3 so I smooth called to look at the river. The Ace on the river sealed the deal, villain jammed - I called and was back to where I started, his 2 pair were good. I proceeded to build back up and found myself top 10 in chips again. After a cooler I found myself sitting 15th – 20th in chips as we approached the final 2 tables with 18 spots paying. I kept myself in contention and then found AJs in early position. I open raised and Jurollo who was sitting on my direct left shipped it in. Our stacks were about the same, I had him slightly covered and I called expecting a flip. Jurollo turned over 88 and I won the race when a J hit the on the flop to vault me back into the top 10. Payback would be a bitch, stay tuned..... We played short handed forever on the money bubble. I was pretty card dead but kept my stack about the same with aggression. We finally made the money, the blinds were up considerably due to the long bubble and having not seen a big starting hand in like forever I jammed 99 with the button over a raise and busted to his AA to go out 15th.

$120 Knockout – Built a big stack early and ranged between top 2 or 3 to top 10 in chips for hours. Made it to the final 2 tables with a 5th or 6th place stack. Having Jurollo with the chip lead to my direct left didn’t help matters especially considering that I went completely card dead. I made it to the Final Table bubble and was playing 5 handed with a 5th or 6th place chip stack and a nice cushion between my stack and 7th place on down. There weren’t many good spots for me and I was doing all I could to keep afloat for what seemed like forever. Then I picked up K8s in the sb and limped to Jurollo’s bb hoping to catch a flop and take advantage of his aggression. Yup, I took advantage of it right to the rail, busting on the Final Table Bubble at Full Tilt for the 2nd time in a week.

As Jurollo said right after the hand was over I just got unlucky here, really nothing I could do about it. Payback was a bitch.

I knocked out 5 players in this event so that was good for an extra hundy in knockout bonuses. I made some money yesterday but finished the day knowing that I played really well and came up a bit short again. And so it goes in tournament poker. Can’t wait until I have a chance to do it all over again!
